Grindelwald

Grindelwald is the larger of the alpine tourist villages in the Jungfrau region. Some people complain that it's too tourist focused, but I think some people are just overthinking it. An actual village wouldn't want tourists there to begin with, of course Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen and so forth are touristy. You are a tourist.

Personally, I've always enjoyed the feeling of these kind of villages. Touristy they may be, but it is energizing in the mornings to see hikers and mountaineers with their gear preparing for an adventure.

For hotels, I'd recommend Kreuz & Post for a nicer stay. It can be quite pricy, though. But it's well furnished, has a sauna, and is right next to the train station.

Note!

Grindelwald has two train stations. One of them is located inside the village, the other basically just connects to cablecars.

Note!

Be mindful of public transit operating times. The cablecars and trains only run for certain hours. If you stay past their last run, then you'll have to walk your way back to your hotel, which can be multiple hours, potentially in the dark.

Not actually the highest point in Europe, but still pretty high up regardless. Honestly, I don't think it's a must-do. It's definitely crowded and full of tourists, but it is neat to see glaciers, if you're going in the summer. Even up in the mountains, Switzerland is pretty hot these days during summer months.

There is a famous train that takes you up to the top. It can be a bit convoluted, so make sure to do your planning beforehand. I'd recommend buying tickets early, and going early. There's a newer, faster, and lamer train as well. I think it's fine for going down, but I wouldn't recommend it going up.

Once you're at the top, there's a little hike in the snow. It's nothing crazy, but a bit novel. You don't need spikes or crampons or anything, thousands of sneaker-wearing tourists make it to the top every hour.

This is an easy but spectacular hike. There is little elevation gain - it's more of a walk than a hike. You start from Mannlichen - from Grindelwald station, take the cablecar up and then follow markers Kleine Scheidegg.
